CLASSIC & PERFORMANCE VEHICLES · DALRY
Classic and Performance Car Specialist in Ayrshire
West Coast Performance provides classic and performance car specialist care in Ayrshire, starting with the vehicle itself rather than a generic assumption. Its history, current condition, originality, previous modifications and intended use are all considered before we recommend any maintenance, investigation or repair.
No Two Enthusiast Vehicles Are the Same
Two similar cars can need a genuinely different approach because of age, history, previous work, modifications, storage and how they are actually used. We do not assume a standard procedure applies just because a vehicle looks familiar — each one is considered on its own terms.
This applies whether your vehicle is largely original, has been modified over the years, or falls somewhere in between. The starting point is always the vehicle in front of us, not a generic assumption about its type.
What Matters When Planning the Work
Before recommending anything, we take time to understand what is genuinely relevant to your vehicle. These are the areas that most often shape the conversation.
History and Existing Condition
What has been done to the vehicle before, and its current condition, shape what is sensible to consider now.
Originality and Previous Modifications
Whether a vehicle is original, modified, or somewhere between the two affects the approach we discuss with you.
Road Use, Occasional Use or Enthusiast Goals
How the vehicle is actually used, from daily driving to occasional or enthusiast use, informs what matters most.
None of these considerations exist in isolation. We bring them together when we discuss your vehicle with you, rather than focusing on a single factor at the expense of the wider picture.
BEFORE ANY RECOMMENDATION
Start With an Informed Vehicle Assessment
Before we agree maintenance, investigate a reported issue, or discuss a repair, we review what is available to us: an inspection of the vehicle, any records you can share, the existing setup, reported symptoms and what matters most to you.
We do not list specific tests or procedures in advance, because what is appropriate depends entirely on the vehicle in front of us. The assessment comes first, and the conversation about what to do next follows from what we actually find.
This is particularly important for vehicles with a long or varied history, where previous work by different people can mean the current setup is not quite what the specification sheet would suggest. We look at what is actually there, not what should theoretically be there.
Preservation, Reliability or Planned Change?
These goals can sometimes conflict, and we do not assume which one matters most to you. We agree the priority together rather than guessing, and we do not promise a specific outcome in advance.
Preserve Existing Character
Keeping the vehicle as close as possible to how it is now, or to its original specification.
Improve Dependability
Appropriate maintenance or repair aimed at more dependable, confident everyday use.
A Carefully Planned Change
Discussing a change where it is suitable for the vehicle and genuinely wanted.
It is common for these priorities to shift once you see what an inspection actually finds. We are happy to revisit the conversation as your thinking develops, rather than holding you to an initial preference.
JOINED-UP CARE
Connecting Different Workstreams Around One Vehicle
An older or enthusiast vehicle often benefits from someone who can see the whole picture. Servicing, fault investigation, mechanical repair, carburettor or fuel-system work, brakes and suspension, and exhaust work can all relate to one another on a single car.
Each of these is its own area of work with its own detail, which is why our dedicated pages cover them properly. Here, we are simply explaining how they can connect around your specific vehicle, rather than treating each visit as unrelated to the last.

06
Review Completed Work
We review the completed work and any sensible next steps together.
Vehicles We Can Discuss
Suitability depends on the particular vehicle and the work being requested. We do not promise that every vehicle or every modification can be supported, but we are happy to discuss yours.
Classic and Older Road Cars
We discuss classic and older road cars, taking age, original fittings and available parts into account.
Performance and Enthusiast Cars
Performance and enthusiast vehicles are considered on their own terms, including how they are used.
Modified or Non-Standard Vehicles
Modified and non-standard vehicles are discussed individually, based on their specific setup.
If you are unsure whether your vehicle fits any of these categories, that is not a barrier to getting in touch — we would rather discuss the specific car than rule it out from a general description.
MAKING SENSE OF THE OPTIONS
Building a Sensible Priority Plan
Where a vehicle has several things that could be looked at, it helps to separate them: safety or roadworthiness concerns, ongoing maintenance needs, known faults, and optional future improvements you may want to consider later.
We do not offer a formal written restoration plan or promise a fixed budget. What we can do is help you think through what is most important first, so decisions about your vehicle are proportionate and made with a clear picture rather than all at once.
This approach also means you are never committed to everything at once. Immediate needs can be addressed first, with other items revisited later once you have had time to consider them.

Classic and Performance Car FAQs
What makes work on a classic or performance car different?
These vehicles often have their own history, original fittings, modifications or storage considerations that an ordinary modern car does not, so we take time to understand the specific vehicle before recommending anything.
Do you work on every make and model?
We cannot promise support for every make, model or modification. Get in touch and we can discuss your specific vehicle before you book anything in.
Can you help if the vehicle has limited history?
Yes. Where history is limited, we start by establishing what is known and assessing the vehicle’s current condition, rather than assuming a history we cannot confirm.
Can you work with previous modifications?
Often, yes. We discuss existing modifications with you and take them into account when considering what is appropriate for the vehicle, though suitability depends on the specific setup.
Do you offer complete restorations?
We do not claim to offer full restorations. We provide confirmed workshop services such as servicing, diagnostics, mechanical repairs, brakes, suspension and exhaust work, and are happy to discuss the exact scope you have in mind.
Can you help preserve originality?
Yes, where that is a priority for you. We discuss what matters to you about your vehicle’s originality and take it into account when agreeing an approach.
Can you assess a car that has been stored or used infrequently?
Yes. A vehicle that has been stored or used infrequently may need particular attention, and we can discuss what is relevant before it goes back into regular use.
Do you provide servicing, diagnostics and mechanical repairs?
Yes, these are confirmed services we provide, alongside carburettor and fuel-system work, brakes, suspension and exhaust repairs, each with its own detail discussed for your vehicle.
Can you plan optional upgrades?
We can discuss optional upgrades where they relate to our confirmed services and are genuinely suitable for your vehicle, agreed with you rather than assumed.
What information should I provide before booking?
Your vehicle’s make, model and year, current condition, known history, any modifications, current symptoms, and how the vehicle is used.
How much will work cost?
This depends on your vehicle and the scope agreed after assessment, so we do not quote a fixed price without understanding your specific situation first.
How long will work take?
This depends on the vehicle and the work involved, so we cannot promise a fixed duration in advance. We will keep you informed as things progress.
How do I arrange an assessment?
Use the “Discuss Your Vehicle” button, call the workshop on 01294 493376, or complete the enquiry form below and we will get back to you.
